WHO WE ARE
The foundation stone of Halisahar municipality finds its roots way back in 1903 at the northern end of the district of North 24 Parganas. By the eastern bank of river Hooghly and amidst the surrounding ULBs of Naihati, Kalyani and Kanchrapara Halisahar beams in its distinct colour .
Located on the east bank of the River Hooghly, Halisahar can easily be reached by train from Sealdah and Howrah.
The historical roots of Halisahar is believed to originate from the reign of Sultanates. Halisahar was known as the city of palaces namely (Haveli Sahar ) during the reign of Bakjtiar Khilji back in the early 13th century.
Through the pages of Abul Fazal’ ain e akbari drafted in the late 16th century, one would find the mention of this township ( as Halisahar) .
Travelling back to the last leg of the Shashanka reign we would find excerpts of some historians referring Halisahar as “ Kumarhatta” .
Halisahar has been the abode to many spiritual personalities like Sripad Iswarpuri - The Guru of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Sadhak Kabi Shri Ramparasd Sen, Rani Rashmani and so on. The city is blessed with the foot-dust of prophet Chaitanya – the founder of the religion Vaishnava, who came to this town in absence of his Guru Ishwarpuri. A small pond was formed as he and his followers dug the soil to take the foot dust (Chaitanya Doba).

Shri Bipin Bihari Ganguly , best known for his revolutionary role in arms & ammunition in our fight for freedom , is also the son of Halisahar’s soil. He played significant role in the famous snatching of “RODDA PISTOL” by the revolutionaries of Bengal in the year 1914.
Halisahar is also known as “Pancha Satir Shahar” (town of five devotee ladies). The town is enriched by the dust of 5 great ladies-Jagadishwari,Siddheshwari, Shyamasundari, Rani Rasmoni and Sudhangshubala. All of them devoted their spiritual lives to Godess Kali.
Many Temples, Asharams, Maths are situated on the western side of river Ganges which attracts pilgrims from all over West Bengal. Chasma Baba Mazar & Manik Pir Darga in Halisahar also attracts pilgrims. The Holy Church situated at Bagmore also manages to catch the eyeballs of various visitors.
